TESOL, BRAZ-TESOL and Regional Chapters TESOL, Teachers of English to Speaker of Other Languages is an
international organization founded in the United States in 1966. Its mission is
to develop and maintain professional expertise in English language teaching and
learning for speakers of other languages worldwide, always having in mind the individual
language rights of its members. TESOL is present in more
than 90 countries. BRAZ-TESOL was oficially formed in São Paulo in February
1987 and its first meeting was held in Curitiba in 1988. Since then the national convention took place every two years: Rio de
Janeiro (1990), São Paulo (1992), Ribeirão Preto (1994), Goiânia (1996), Recife
(1998), São Paulo (2000), Florianópolis (2002), Belo Horizonte (2004), Brasília
(2006), Fortaleza (2008) and São Paulo (July 2010). Besides the national organization, there are also
Regional Chapters which organize regular events on a regional basis.
